This weekThe No. 47 Razorbacks hit the road to play Illinois State and Purdue this weekend in West Lafayette, Ind. The Hogs will face Illinois State at noon on Saturday and Purdue at noon on Sunday.

Last time outThe Hogs traveled to Charlottesville, Va. for the ITA National Indoor Invite, Jan. 30-31. On Friday, Arkansas came up against host school, No. 5 Virginia, and were dismissed soundly, losing 7-0. Rallying in their match against No. 34 Wisconsin on Saturday, the Razorbacks came close but fell short, dropping the match to the Badgers, 4-3.

Scouting Illinois StateThe Illinois State men’s tennis team improved its spring record to 2-0, with victories over Eastern Illinois [Jan. 29] and UIC [Jan. 31]. Senior Daniel Tobar and freshman Skip Span rank No. 56 nationally in doubles. Sophomores Timon Reichelt and Filip Miljevic rank No. 11 in doubles in the central region, and Miljevic boats the No. 28 spot in the central region in singles. Illinois State is currently led [in overall records] by Skip Span (12-4) and Timon Reichelt (11-4) in singles, and Daniel Tobar and Skip Span (8-2), as a doubles team.

Scouting PurdueThe Purdue men’s tennis team is coming off their first win of the season, a 6-1 decision over Butler Sunday, after two 4-3 losses to begin the season. Junior Slavko Bijelica, who has a 3-0 record in singles and is 2-1 in doubles with partner Griff Nienberg, leads the Boilermakers from the No. 1 position. Sophomore Eric Ramos and junior Paul Foley, who normally are teamed together in doubles,sport 4-0 records combining doubles and singles so far.

Strode honoredSenior Blake Strode was honored at the Red Tie Dinner on Saturday Jan. 31 as one of four Razorback athletes receiving the Salute to Excellence award. Theward is given to those student-athletes whose performance throughout his or her career serves to lift up his or her sport to new heights and whose character exemplifies the goals of the University of Arkansas Department of Athletics.
