Men’s Tennis named to ITA All-Academic List

FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas men’s tennis team was named a 2012 Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic Team for the first time while Matt Walters, Hall Fess and Nikolas Zogaj were named ITA Scholar-Athletes.

"I am very proud of the student-athletes that make up our men’s tennis team," head coach Robert Cox said. "They have achieved many goals on and off the court this season with our ranking jumping up 25 spots while also doubling our total wins from the previous year. For the entire team to achieve such a high grade-point average says something about the culture that has been created on this team. I am convinced that the success in the classroom bleeds over onto the court."

Arkansas is one of just four Southeastern Conference schools to receive the team award. The ITA All-Academic team award is open to any ITA program has a cumulative team GPA of 3.20 or higher on a 4.00 scale.

In order to earn the ITA Scholar-Athlete status a student-athlete must meet the following criteria; be a varsity letterwinner, have a GPA of 3.50 or higher (on a 4.00 scale) and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.

"We are so proud of our three seniors that left this program," Cox said. "They have set a very high bar for the rest to follow. We will miss Taj Harrison, Matt Walters and Nikolas Zogaj."

Walters graduated with his degree in kinesiology while Zogaj earned his in transportation.
