PALO ALTO, Calif. – Sophomore Nicole Menzel (Razorback Aquatic Club) led a pack of four Razorback swimmers competing in day one of the U.S. National Championships at Stanford University Tuesday morning, setting a personal best in the 400 meter freestyle event but missing qualification for the U.S. Olympic Trials by one one-hundredth of a second.
Menzel placed 65th out of 124 swimmers and stopped the clock at 4:19.40, but the Olympic qualifying time was 4:19.39. Menzel has already qualified for the Olympic trials in the 800 meter freestyle.
Senior Katie Whitbeck (Chesapeake Swim Club) and sophomore Liz Braun (Razorback Aquatic Club) each competed in the 100 meter butterfly, with Whitbeck placing 95th out of 185 with a time of 1:02.70, and Braun placing 153rd with a time of 1:03.95.
Freshman Susanna White swam the 100 meter individual medley, and finished in 2:21.03, 97th out of 173 swimmers.
A total of seven Razorbacks will be in action throughout the week as the U.S. Nationals continue through Saturday, August 6th.
