Miseviciute and Kaluder selected to play in NCAA Championships

FAYETTEVILLE – One day after the 17th-ranked University of Arkansas Lady Razorback tennis team was selected to the 2008 NCAA Women’s Tennis Tournament, two Lady’Backs were chosen to participate in the NCAA singles and doubles championships.

Junior Aurelija Miseviciute, the top-ranked student-athlete in women’s collegiate tennis, was chosen to compete in singles, while she and teammate Ela Kaluder were selected to play in doubles.

The championships will take place in Tulsa, Okla. on May 21-26 after the team championship is done.

Miseviciute received the automatic bid for the Southeastern Conference by the NCAA Championship committee. She has been ranked No. 1 nationally in singles for much of the spring season after compiling a 47-4 overall record. Miseviciute will look to add to her ITA National Indoor Championship she won in the fall. She was named an All-SEC First Team member unanimously as well as SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Miseviciute and Kaluder, currently ranked No. 29 in doubles, earned an at-large bid into the doubles championships. The two juniors are the first Lady’Back duo to earn an NCAA Doubles Championship bid since 1982. They combined this season for a 28-11 overall record including a 10-6 mark on Court 1 during the spring.

The Lady’Back tennis team will be playing in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on May 9 against No. 46 Wake Forest in Chapel Hill, N.C.
