Miseviciute climbs all-time wins list on Monday

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Senior Aurelija Miseviciute moved into fourth-place in all-time singles wins at the University of Arkansas during the final day of the Virginia Winter Invite on Monday.

Second-ranked Miseviciute earned her 103rd career win at Arkansas while leading No. 14 Arkansas to an 8-1 record on Monday and a 21-6 overall record in Virginia.

“We certainly learned a lot this weekend and we were noticeably better on Monday than we were on Saturday, so we feel good about that,” said Razorback head coach Michael Hegarty.

After playing individual opponents from Virginia and North Carolina on Saturday and Sunday, the Razorbacks took on the 50th-ranked Utah Utes on Monday.

Arkansas went undefeated in singles action on Monday, with four of those wins coming in straight-sets.

Miseviciute was awarded first-place in the tournament after making easy work of Anastasia Putilina, 6-3, 6-1. Sophomore Anouk Tigu, ranked No. 66 in singles, split sets with Evgenia Kryuchkova before winning the super tie-breaker third-set and claiming second-place in singles.

Senior Ela Kaluder blanked Erin Monson, 6-0, 6-0, while Nanar Airapetian claimed a third-set super tie-breaker, 10-5, over Lisa Johnson. The Razorbacks got more impressive play from their freshmen class as Emily Carbone and Kate Lukomskaya each snatched victories in singles. Carbone dropped Andrea Maughan, 6-3, 6-1, as Lukomskaya defeated Lexi Provancha, 6-3, 6-2.

“This weekend really prepared us well for the rigors of what is ahead of us,” Hegarty said.

Arkansas continued to illustrate strong doubles play with first-place winners, No. 8 Airapetian and Tigu, dropping Putlina and Johnson, 8-6. The senior duo of Miseviciute and Kaluder shutout Monson and Kryuchkova, 8-0.

The Razorbacks will begin their dual match season in Fayetteville on Friday when they host St. Louis at 5:00 p.m.
