Miseviciute downs record and Cougars 6-1

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – A straight set victory by senior Aurelija Miseviciute pushed the All-American into first place in all-time singles wins at the University of Arkansas, thrusting the 16th-ranked Razorbacks to a win over No. 44 Brigham Young, 6-1.

“I’m proud to see that my hard work each day has paid off, and it feels great to set a new record here in our home facility in front of the home crown during my senior year,” said Miseviciute.

Second-ranked Miseviciute defeated BYU’s McCall Jones, 6-1, 6-0, earning her 108th singles victory for the top spot in Arkansas women’s tennis history. The win also clinched Arkansas’ fourth win of the season.

“Aurelija (Miseviciute) has been a leader on this team and represents us well on and off the court,” said Arkansas head coach Michael Hegarty. “We are fortunate to have her in our lineup every match.”

After dropping the doubles point, Arkansas (4-1) was determined to exhibit a stellar performance in singles: mission accomplished.

Freshman Emily Carbone put the Hogs on the board to tie the match at 1-1, in a 6-1, 6-0, victory against Chie Hayasaka. Carbone led the charge of six-consecutive Razorbacks to win in straight-sets while fellow freshman Kate Lukomskaya gave Arkansas their first lead of the day defeating Elizaveta Ezhova, 6-0, 6-2.

Ela Kaluder had no problem with Romina Nedakovic, 6-2, 6-1, setting up the stage for Miseviciute’s win and clincher. Sophomore No. 66 Anouk Tigu closed out the match, 6-3, 6-4, over No. 73 Kristina Doerr to sweep singles for Arkansas.

“We’re real excited to come out of this match with such a convincing win, but full credit goes to BYU for taking it to us in doubles,” Hegarty said.

The Cougars claimed the doubles point early on in the match, while 8th-ranked Airapetian and Tigu were able to muster their 15th win of the season in doubles.
