Miseviciute named Honda Sports Award finalist

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – University of Arkansas senior Aurelija Miseviciute has been named a finalist for the 2008-09 Honda Sports Award, the Collegiate Women’s Sports Awards has announced.

A finalist for the award last year, Miseviciute (41-5) advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Singles Championship this year while posting a perfect 11-0 singles record in Southeastern Conference play during the regular season.

Miseviciute, a three-time All-SEC honoree, holds the record for most singles wins in Arkansas history with 126. The 2007 and 2008 ITA National Indoor Champion last week was named to the second team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District, her second all-district honor.

The Honda Sports Award recognizes female student-athletes for their superior athletic skills, leadership abilities, academic excellence and eagerness to participate in community service. The winner after nationwide balloting will become a candidate for The Honda-Broderick Cup awarded annually to the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year.

Other nominees for the tennis Honda Sports Award are Mallory Cecil (Duke), Maria Mosolova (Northwestern) and Laura Vallverdu (Miami).
