Missouri State up next

FAYETTEVILLE – The Arkansas Razorbacks host the Missouri State Bears on Wednesday for a non-conference match up at 5 p.m. at Bogle Park.

Historically, the Razorbacks are 16-17 against the Bears. Last season, the Razorbacks took a 6-5 win over MSU at the North Texas Invitational. Senior Becca Carden and Courtney Breault hit back-to-back RBI doubles to lead the Hogs to the win. The Razorbacks go into the midweek with a 10-28 overall record this season.

"Tomorrow is a big game for us," head coach Mike Larabee said. "I gave the team a couple days off to get reenergized. I wanted to give them a chance to make their main focus softball and beating Missouri State. We just have to put the ball in play and move the ball like we are capable."

Carden continues to lead the Razorbacks with a .348 batting average and six home runs on the season. The center fielder leads the Razorbacks in almost every category including triples (3), slugging percentage (.617), hits (40), runs (19) and at bats (110). She also leads the Razorbacks in Southeastern Conference play, but freshman Jayme Gee is not far behind.

Gee boasts a .324 batting average in her 16 SEC games started. She has 11 hits in conference play a total of 34 at bats. The freshman has two sacrifice flies to her name and has started every conference game behind the plate for Arkansas.

Missouri State faces Oklahoma State on Tuesday before heading to Fayetteville for the midweek single game against the Razorbacks. Currently in a three-game slump, the Bears swept the series from MVC foe Indiana State, but the team was swept last weekend by the Illinois State Redbirds in Normal, Ill. The Bears have already met OSU once before and fell in the same fashion as the Razorbacks. The 0-1 loss in eight innings to the then-ranked No. 18 Cowgirls came on an eighth-inning sacrifice fly to score the lone run.

The first pitch is set for 5 p.m. at Bogle Park. The Razorbacks host just the single game against the Bears before making the trip to Gainesville, Fla. to meet the No. 10 Gators in a three-game weekend series.
