FAYETTEVILLE – The Arkansas softball team heads to No. 18/17 Missouri for the first mid-week game of the season on Wednesday, March 9 in Columbia, Mo.
The Razorbacks (9-11) went 2-3 on the weekend at the USF Under Armour Invitational. Arkansas struggled on the first day in Tampa, Fla., with a 2-3 loss to Ball State and a 0-2 loss to host South Florida. Arkansas came back with a 4-2 win over East Tennessee State in extra innings before falling 0-8 to fifth-ranked Michigan.
Sophomore Linnea Ketcher went three-for-three against the Wolverines, collecting three of the Razorbacks six hits with two stolen bases. The Hogs ended with a 5-2 win over Loyola Marymount on Sunday after taking the game to extra innings. Senior Becca Carden gave the Razorbacks a winnings lead in the top of the eighth with a two run homerun.
"Missouri has been in the College World Series the last two years," head coach Mike Larabee said. "They have a dominant pitcher who had already thrown two perfect games. It’s going to be a tough battle, but hopefully we can go up there and, when you’re going against a great pitcher, that’s when you need to get that timely hit and we’ve shown that we can,"
Missouri last met the Razorbacks in 2009. The Tigers collected an 8-0 win over the Hogs, bringing the all-time series record to 2-4 for Arkansas. The last win was for UA came in 2000 with a score of 5-1. Last weekend, the Tigers beat UMKC 3-0. Coincidentally the Razorbacks meet the Kangaroos in the final home game of the regular season. Missouri goes into the mid-week game with an 11-3 record overall.
Arkansas boasts a .295 team batting average going into the game, while Mizzou is comparable with a .285.
The first pitch is set for 3 p.m. in Columbia, Mo. After the single game with Mizzou, the Razorbacks host the home opening series against No. 24 Auburn March 11-13 at Bogle Park.
