Morris Nominated for NCAA Woman of the Year

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – NCAA indoor pole vault national champion Sandi Morris represents the University of Arkansas as its nominee for NCAA Woman of the Year, announced on Friday. Morris joins 479 other female student-athletes spread among all three NCAA divisions, the most ever in the history of the program, as a candidate for the award.

Entering its 25th year, the Women of the Year award recognizes graduating female college athletes who have fulfilled their eligibility and excelled in academics, athletics, service, and leadership throughout their collegiate career. The field of nominees will be narrowed down to two per conference and reduced further to 30 honorees, 10 per division by a selection committee. The annual award ceremony will be held on Oct. 18 in Indianapolis during which the top 30 will be celebrated and winner announced.

Morris etched her name in the NCAA record books at the SEC Outdoor Championships, setting the collegiate record in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.72m/15-5.75 to claim her third-career SEC title. The Greenville, S.C., native boasts a decorated career that includes the aforementioned NCAA indoor title, four first team All-America honors, three SEC titles and two program records. She also joins NCAA track and field’s elite student-athletes on the Bowerman Watch List.

Named the SEC Indoor Scholar-Athlete of the Year this past February, Morris graduated summa cum laude earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in broadcast journalism with a 3.925 grade-point average (GPA).
