NCAA Champion Lewis to play Arkansas LPGA event

FAYETTEVILLE — University of Arkansas junior Stacy Lewis has accepted a sponsor’s exemption to play at the LPGA Northwest Arkansas Championship presented by John. Q. Hammons this fall. Lewis made Lady Razorback history winning the 2007 NCAA Championship the last week of May and now becomes the first Arkansas golfer to compete in the inaugural event. The tournament is scheduled for Sept. 3-9, at Pinnacle Country Club in Rogers, Ark. "I’m really excited to play," said Lewis. "We haven’t had a home tournament in two years, so it will be nice to play in front of a home crowd." Lewis’ accomplishments are many. A three-time all-American and first-team all-Southeastern Conference selection, Lewis added the Dinah Shore Trophy to her case this year. She holds nearly every individual record for the Lady Razorbacks and is a part of all of Arkansas’ team records as well. Lewis became the first Lady Razorback to take part in an LPGA event during the 2006 summer when she received an exemption to the Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic in Toledo, Ohio. Lewis most recently competed at the 2007 Kraft Nabisco Championship, one of the four major tournaments on the LPGA tour, and was the low amateur in the field finishing tied for fifth overall. "We couldn’t be more proud of Stacy and her accomplishments," said Arkansas head coach Kelley Hester. "Stacy exemplifies what a student-athlete is and it’s a well-deserved reward for her hard work and dedication. I know she’ll represent the Lady Razorbacks as well as the state of Arkansas in the most positive manner." Tickets are currently on sale for the Northwest Arkansas Championship presented by John Q. Hammons. Daily tickets are $15 Tuesday-Thursday of the tournament week and $25 for championship play Friday-Sunday. Week-long credentials care be purchased for $50.
