Netters Close Fall Schedule at Arizona State Texas

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas closes its fall tennis schedule this weekend, with the three Razorback seniors heading to two different tournaments.

Rohan Gajjar and Matt Roberts will compete at the Arizona State Thunderbird Invitational in Tempe, Ariz., while Adrians Zguns is set to compete at the University of Texas Invitational in Austin, Texas.

“Our three seniors will wrap up our fall season,” Razorback Coach Robert Cox said, “After last week’s performance (at the ITA Central Region Championships), we want to end our fall season on a higher note, and play better than we did last week.

“We’re going not only to compete, but to win. I couldn’t think of two better venues to finish our fall than Arizona State and Texas.”

Gajjar, ranked 31st nationally, and Roberts, ranked 73rd, will play both singles and doubles this weekend in Tempe. Gajjar is 2-2 this fall, while Roberts is 5-3. The two will team in doubles for the first time since the 2004 season. Gajjar is half of the nation’s 6th-ranked doubles pair with Zguns, while Roberts is 3-1 this fall, teaming with freshman Blake Strode.

Zguns, ranked 58th, is off to a 7-2 start this fall, with his only losses coming to No. 13 Luke Shields of Boise State, and ITA Central Region Champion Daniel Byrnes of Oklahoma State. The Liepaja, Latvia native is currently seventh all-time in career victories at Arkansas with 85, four behind Tim Siegel.

Competition at both events begins Friday and will continue through Sunday. For results, check www.hogwired.com.
