New health care structure announced

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas is pleased to announce a new health care structure to meet the increased demands of a unified athletic department and the needs of its student-athletes.

“The health, well-being and safety of our student-athletes is the top priority of our athletic department,” Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Jeff Long said. “We have developed a comprehensive approach to meet the broader needs of a combined men’s and women’s athletic program servicing more than 460 student-athletes. Our new structure allows us to provide our student-athletes state-of-the-art and equitable care across all 19 of our sports programs.”

The new program will provide expanded resources and care to all Razorback student-athletes and will continue to be coordinated by longtime medical director Dr. Al Gordon.

“We are pleased that Dr. Gordon will continue to serve in his very important leadership role within our student-athlete care program,” Long said. “We are appreciative of all of the team physicians and medical partners that have provided care to our program in the past. We are looking forward to working with all of our partners to ensure that our new program remains at the forefront of student-athlete care.”

The athletic department will continue its partnership with Medical Associates of Northwest Arkansas (MANA) for primary care services. Orthopedic services will be provided by the Physicians Orthopedic Group.
