NEW NCAA RECRUITING LEGISLATION

NEW NCAA RECRUITING LEGISLATION EFFECTIVE AUGUST 1, 2007

There are two new pieces of NCAA Legislation that will effect you in your upcoming recruiting process. All schools are subject to these rules and they will be in effect starting August 1, 2007.

2006-40 Recruiting – Recruiting Materials – Electronic TransmissionsTo specify that electronically transmitted correspondence that may be sent to a prospective student-athlete is limited to electronic mail and facsimiles.

What does this mean for you? It means that all text messaging and instant messaging is forbidden by NCAA rules. If a coach wishes to contact you, it must be through email, fax, or the permitted one phone call per week. Therefore if you text or instant message a coach, they will not be able to respond to it beginning in August.

2006-46 Recruiting – Official Visit Requirements and Written Offers of Athletically Related Financial Aid – Registration with the Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse and Institutional Request ListTo specify that an institution shall not provide an official visit to a high school or preparatory school prospective student-athlete until he or she registers with the NCAA Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse and is placed on the institutional request list; further, to specify that an institution shall not provide a high school or preparatory school prospective student-athlete a written offer of athletically related financial aid until he or she registers with the NCAA Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse and the institution places the prospective student-athlete on the institutional request list (IRL) with the Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse.

What does this mean for you? Register with the NCAA Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse as soon as possible! You can register online at www.ncaaclearinghouse.net. You must get an official transcript from your high school sent to the Clearinghouse. Any SAT or ACT scores need to be sent directly from the testing agency, and you must pay the fee to register. You will not be able to go on any official visits to campuses in the fall until you are registered. In addition, you will not be able to sign the National Letter of Intent until you are registered.

Other NCAA Rules:As your junior year is winding down, here are some other rules to be aware of for the upcoming months.

Coaches can only call you 1 time per week beginning July 1.July 15 is the first official day to have face to face contact off campus. You cannot have an official visit to campus until you have started your senior year of high school.
