FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Sophomore left-handed pitcher Nick Schmidt was named to the American Baseball Coaches Association All-South Region team on Monday.
Schmidt joined Alabama junior lefty Wade LeBlanc and Vanderbilt sophomore south-paw David Price on the first team.
Schmidt, a St. Louis native, finished his sophomore campaign with a 9-3 record and a 3.01 ERA. He fanned 145 on the season to finish second in the SEC behind Price’s 147 strikeouts.
His 145 strikeouts were the second-most in a single season in school history and moved him into fourth on Arkansas’ all-time strikeout chart with 234 in just two seasons.
Schmidt has also been selected as a first-team All-American by Louisville Slugger and named to the College Baseball Foundation’s All-America team. The ABCA will select their All-America team at a meeting later this week in Omaha, Neb.
