Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival-Women’s Results

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Racing past the competition, two-time All-American Dominique Scott opened her senior season as the Chile Pepper Festival champion in 16:07.18.

Scott last competed in Italy this past summer clocking 4:08.65 at 1500 meters, the best for a collegian in 2015. The 2014 cross country season saw the South African native finish first in five meets including the SEC Championships and South Central Region Championships. She returns this year as one of the top runners in the hunt for the individual title at this year’s national championship.

The race brought out personal best performances for Safee Belbina, Sydney Brown, Devin Clark, Kaitlin Flattmann, Nikki Hiltz, Valerie Reina and Kelsey Schrader on the 5K Agri Park course.

Arkansas’ top five featured Clark (16:28.56) as the race runner-up, Flattmann (16:38.81) fourth, Regan Ward (16:39.98) fifth and Schrader (16:45.20) sixth. Just three points off of a perfect 15 the Razorbacks scored 18 points to claim their fourth team title of the season.

Reina (16:54.59) and Belbina (17:01.53) were the sixth and seven finishers for Arkansas both crossing the line among the top 15 with Reina 10th and Belbina 12th in division I competition.

The Razorbacks next compete at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational on Friday, Oct. 16.

From Lance Harter
Dominique Scott is the real deal. She started her season extremely well and ran an excellent time despite the fact that she had no one to keep pace with throughout the race. She has definitely emerged as one of the best runners in the country. Our breakthrough runner has been Devin Clark. She really did a tremendous job of staying up in front and lasting through the race to come through second. She has a bright future ahead of her. Our 6, 7, 8, and 9 runners were right there in the mix which speaks to the depth of our team. Our freshman were running lifetime PRs. We’ll head to Wisconsin next week and see some NCAA level competition. Everyone is healthy so we’re right on schedule.
