No. 12 Arkansas Starts Strong at Cowboy Preview

STILLWATER, Okla. — The No. 12 Arkansas women’s cross country team began its 2017 campaign with a strong showing at the Cowboy Preview in Stillwater, Oklahoma, finishing with two victories and placing two runners in the top-5.

The Razorbacks were pitted against No. 21 Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, and Tulsa.

“It was a pretty low key event, just an opportunity for some of our runners to get the chance to be in a scoring position and carry the banner for Arkansas,” head coach Lance Harter said.

2016 All-Region performer Sydney Brown led the way for Arkansas, finishing 3^rd overall, completing the 3k course in 10:41.80.

Redshirt-sophomore Micah Huckabee finished fourth overall, completing the race less than a second behind Brown with a time of 10:42.70. Huckabee competed in the race for the second consecutive year, improving on her time from the 2016 season where she finished 8^th with a time of 10:48.20.

“It was a good confidence builder for Syd [Brown] and Micah to get out there and lead the team,” Harter said. “Overall our young athletes really competed well, matched up against top runners from some of the other programs.”

Greta Taylor, Alex Ritchey and Ruth Wiggins finished tops among the group of five Razorbacks competing in their first race. Taylor finished 11^th overall and third among Razorbacks in her first race for Arkansas, with a time of 11:00.70 with Ritchey close behind at 11:01.30. Wiggins rounded out the top-20 with a time of 11:12.60.

Kailee Sawyer was the only other top-15 performer for Arkansas, finishing with a time of 11:03.90.
