No. 12 Razorbacks Rack Up 12 Wins at Arkansas Twilight

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The 12th-ranked Razorback men’s track and field team closed out its home schedule Friday with 12 wins at the Arkansas Twilight at John McDonnell Field. Rounding into shape ahead of the championship season, the Arkansas men racked up 23 season-best performances with 18 personal bests. Kenzo Cotton and Marqueze Washington led the night’s efforts with two wins each.

In his individual victory at 400 meters, Washington surged down the final stretch to cross the finish line in a personal-best time of 45.99. His performance places him 14th in the NCAA rankings based on times entering the weekend. Washington was back on the track to anchor the 4×400-meter relay team to a victory in the final event of the night.

Cotton posted a pair of first-place efforts at 100 and 200 meters with times of 10.36 and 20.82, respectively. At the longer distance, he finished just ahead of teammate Jarrion Lawson who clocked a PR of his own with a time of 20.86. Lawson was also part of Arkansas’ victorious 4×400-meter relay team. The 4×100-meter relay team of Ryan Green, Zach Riley, Anthony Blakely and Eric Hawkins combined for a winning time of 40.27 in the first event on the track.

Clive Pullen made his way into the national top 20 with personal-best effort in the triple jump. On his first pass down the runway, he got out to a mark of 15.89m/52-1.75 for the first 52-foot jump of her career at Arkansas. Pullen also added more than two feet to his previous best. The Razorbacks swept the horizontal jumps with a win from Brandon Workman in the long jump. He had a day’s best of 7.23m/23-8.75.

In the throws, Arkansas posted wins from Devin Randall in the discus and Andrew Henn in the javelin. In the latter, Henn got out over the 200-foot mark for the first time with his winning effort of 61.70m/202-5 which represents his second six-foot PR in as many weeks. Right behind him, teammate Alex Springer had a personal best of his own with a throw of 59.32m/194-7 in the fifth round.

As they prepare for an upcoming decathlon at the SEC meet, multi-event competitors Lane Austell and Brad Culp each registered personal bests on their way to a win. Austell raced to a time of 15.27 to win the 110-meter hurdles while Culp got over 16 feet for the first time, clearing 4.90m/16-0.75 to win the pole vault.

The Arkansas Twilight marked the start of the final regular-season weekend for the Razorbacks which continues Saturday at the Payton Jordan Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif. The team will be represented at the distance-focused meet by Kemoy Campbell at 5,000 meters and Stanley Kebenei and Frankline Tonui in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. The Razorbacks’ next meet is the 2015 SEC Outdoor Championships. This year’s conference meet will be contested May 14-16 at Spencer Stadium/Maddox Track in Starkville, Miss. Overall, the Arkansas men have won 18 SEC outdoor titles with their most recent triumph coming at the 2013 league meet.
