No. 19 @RazorbackGym Prepared for the NCAA Morgantown Regional

Morgantown, W. Va. – The No. 19-ranked University of Arkansas women’s gymnastics team takes on a field of stiff competition this Saturday, April 4, as they’ll compete in the 2015 NCAA Morgantown Regional on the campus of West Virginia University. Events from the WVU Coliseum begin at 3 p.m. CT.

The NCAA Morgantown Regional features five top top-25 teams in the Gyminfo Rankings, which is the most in any one Regional meet this season. Along with the No. 19-ranked Razorbacks, the field features co-defending national champion, and second-ranked, Florida, No. 11 Stanford, No. 14 Illinois and No. 25 New Hampshire. Host-school West Virginia rounds out the six-team field. The top-two teams in each Regional will advance to the NCAA Championship Session, while the top two all-around gymnasts and the top event finisher not from the top two teams will advance to the NCAA Championship as individuals. The meet will be live streamed on WVUSports.com.

Almost Heaven, West Virginia
Arkansas will be the fourth-seed at the NCAA Morgantown Regional, which will be held on the campus of West Virginia. It will be the third time in the program’s history they will compete in West Virginia. The last came in 2012, when they posted a 195.125 in a dual meet against the Mountaineers

The Field
Arkansas, who is ranked No. 19 in the nation, will be one of five top-25 teams at the NCAA Morgantown Regional. Co-defending national champion, and second-ranked, Florida, will be the top team in the region, followed by No. 11 Stanford and No. 14 Illinois. No. 25 New Hampshire rounds out the top-25 teams, while host-school West Virginia will also be competing.

Keeping The Streak Alive
This year’s NCAA Regional marks 12th-straight appearance for the Razorbacks in the Regionals. Arkansas gymnastics has competed in the NCAA Regionals in all but one season of the program’s existence, which came back in the inaugural 2003 season.

NCAA Regional Rotation
Arkansas’ rotation will be Bye 2, FX, V, Bye 1, UB and BB. It will be the third time in the last four years that Arkansas will compete at the NCAA Regional in this rotation.

Last Time Out
The Razorbacks return to action after a week break from competition. In their last time out, Arkansas posted 195.950 at the 2015 SEC Championship. The score was the second-highest team total in program history at the SEC Championship. Sophomore Amanda Wellick won the vault during the afternoon session, while junior Heather Elswick tied for first on the floor. Both gymnast, along with freshman Paige Zaziski, who placed second on the vault, earned All-SEC honors for their efforts.

Event Rankings
Arkansas ranks inside the top-20 of the RQS in three events. The Razorbacks are currently 14th on both the floor (49.260) and vault (49.280) and tied for 20th on the uneven bars (49.095. The balance beam team is ranked 38th nationally with a 48.755.

Facing His Old School
For only the fourth time in his 13-year tenure at Arkansas, head coach Mark Cook will face off against Stanford. Coach Cook was the head man of the Cardinal gymnastics program from 1998-2001 and came to the Natural State after a four-year stay in Palo Alto, California. All three of the previous meetings have come during the NCAA Championship season, and Stanford holds the 2-1 all-time advantage in those meetings with the last coming in 2012 with a 197.500-196.300 win at the NCAA Super Six.

Wellick Regular-Season All-American
Sophomore Amanda Wellick was named a NACGC Second-Team Regular-Season All-American on the vault. Wellick earned a spot on the second-team by posting an RQS of 9.920, which was tied for the 14th-best in the nation. It is the first All-American nod for the sophomore.

SEC Freshman of the Year
Last Thursday, the Southeastern Conference named Paige Zaziski the co-SEC Freshman of the Year. It marks the second-straight season that an Arkansas gymnast has won the conference’s top rookie honor, as she joins Amanada Wellick as the only two gymnasts to be named the SEC Freshman of the Year in program history.

An All-Conference Trio
Last Thursday, the Southeastern Conference named junior Heather Elswick, sophomore Amanda Wellick and freshman Paige Zaziski to the All-SEC team. The trio marks the second-straight season that the Razorbacks have had three selections on the all-conference team. Zaziski was also named to the All-SEC freshman team and was named the co-SEC Freshman of the Year.

Chasing 200 Wins
Head coach Mark Cook is just two wins away from No. 200 in his head coaching career. The Razorbacks will need to finish at least fourth in NCAA Morgantown Regional to assure the coach of his 200th victory. Coach Cook has amassed 162 wins in his 13-year tenure at Arkansas and 36 in four years at Stanford.

SEC Session Wins
Junior Heather Elswick and sophomore Amanda Wellick each recorded a victory during the afternoon session of the 2015 SEC Gymnastics Championship. Elswick tied for first on the floor exercise with a 9.900, while Wellick won the vault outright with a 9.900. The performances helped both gymnast land a spot on the All-SEC team.

A Vaulting Streak
Sophomore Amanda Wellick enters this Saturday’s meet recording seven-straight 9.9-plus scores on the vault.
The streak started back on Feb. 13 with a 9.925 against Florida. During the seven-week-stretch, she has recorded one 9.950, three 9.925’s and three 9.9’s.

A Top-25 Gymnast
Sophomore Amanda Wellick currently ranks inside the top-25 in the RQS in three events. She is tied for 14h in the vault with an RQS of 9.920. She is also 18th in the all-around with a 39.400 and tied for 23rd in the floor exercise with a 9.900.

Wellick Dominance
Sophomore Amanda Wellick has been racking up the event titles in a rapid pace this season, as she has won 14 event titles through 1 meets this season. The Wheaton, Illinois, native has captured five vault and all-around titles and four floor exercise crowns.

A Strong Vault Duo
Sophomore Amanda Wellick and freshman Paige Zaziski have sparked the Arkansas vault rotation to a No. 14 ranking in the nation. Welllick, who performs from the anchor spot is currently tied for 14th in the nation with an average score of 9.920, while Zaziski is ranked 37th with a 9.890. The pair have posted a 9.850-plus score in 20 of their combined 22 routines this season, and have twice scored a 9.9 or better in the same meet.
