No. 2 Arkansas In The Hunt For 22nd Title
NASHVILLE – Since joining the Southeastern Conference in 1991, the No. 2 Arkansas men’s track and field team has reigned over what many consider to be the most dominant track and field league in the country. This weekend, the Razorbacks look to claim their 22nd SEC indoor title.
The 2017 SEC Indoor Championship will feature seven programs ranked nationally in the top 15, including No. 1 Florida, No. 2 Arkansas, No. 4 Georgia, No. 5 Texas A&M, No. 8 LSU, No. 9 Alabama and No. 12 Tennessee.
In 2016, the Razorbacks picked up their 21st SEC Indoor title by defeating a strong Aggie team by a 23.17-point margin led by three event champions in Jarrion Lawson (long jump), Ken LeGassey (high jump) and Clive Pullen (triple jump).
Arkansas returns LeGassey and Pullen to this year’s indoor showdown to lead an elite jump squad ready to defend their crowns and lead a new group of student-athletes to a tradition of trophies. A victory this weekend in Nashville will also bring Arkansas one step closer to the ever-coveted SEC Triple Crown.
The Razorbacks will open the SEC Indoor Championship on Friday, Feb. 24 at 10 a.m. with Lane Austell, Brad Culp, Derek Jacobus and Gabe Moore in the heptathlon 60-meter dash. All four combined events performers will also be looking to gain entry into the NCAA Indoor Championship. Jacobus is currently leading the charge ranked just outside the qualifying group at No. 17.
