LEXINGTON, Ky. — Freshman Kristofer Ivarsson’s three-set victory in the deciding match at No. 6 singles helped Arkansas’ men’s tennis team continue its hot play with its biggest win of the year late Friday, 4-3 at No. 7 Kentucky.

The 25th-ranked Razorbacks won for the fourth straight time and improved to 6-5 against ranked teams. Before Friday, the highest-ranked opponent Arkansas had beaten was then-No. 23 South Carolina on March 10, 4-3. Arkansas improved to 12-5 with the six-hour victory while Kentucky dropped to 13-6.

“This is a huge win,” head coach Robert Cox said. “Hopefully this sets the tone for the rest of the season. We lost the doubles point but battled back and Kristofer played great. Everybody played hard.”

Arkansas lost the doubles point, losing at the first and third positions, but won the match with singles victories at the second, third, fourth and sixth singles positions. The match was tied 3-3 with Ivarsson and Rahim Esmail still playing. After losing the first set in a tiebreaker, Ivarsson won the next two sets, 7-5 and 6-3, to end Esmail’s 17-match winning streak and give the Hogs the win.

Arkansas’ other wins came from Nathan Price at No. 2, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 over No. 67 Karim Benmansour; Magnus Kullenberg at No. 3, 6-1, 6-4 over Evan Austin; and Aleksey Bubis at No. 4 over No. 94 Gustav Pousette, 6-4, 6-2. Oggie Kolev lost to fifth-ranked Jesse Witten, 6-3, 1-6, 6-4, at No. 1 and Eduardo Pacheco fell to No. 86 Johan Grunditz at No. 5, 2-6, 6-3, 6-1.

Bubis and Pacheco won at No. 2 doubles, 8-4, over Esmail and Witten, but UK won the point with wins from Austin and Benmansour over Kolev and Kullenberg at No. 1, 9-7, and Grunditz and Pousette over Ivarsson and Price at No. 3, 8-3.

UA plays Sunday at 1 p.m. at No. 41 Vanderbilt and Tuesday at 2 p.m. at No. 51 Oklahoma State.
