No. 30 Arkansas Beats UTA in Tennis Opener, 6-
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The University of Arkansas men’s tennis team defeated Texas-Arlington, 6-1, Saturday in its 2002 opener at the UA Indoor/Outdoor Tennis Complex.

The No. 30 Razorbacks (1-0) play host to St. Louis for a pair of matches on Sunday, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

In Saturday’s win over UTA, Oggie Kolev dropped a 7-6, 7-5 decision to Andy Lever, the fourth-ranked player in the nation, but it was all Razorbacks at the other positions.

After winning the doubles point, Nathan Price won at No. 2, 6-3, 6-4 over David Corrie; Magnus Kullenberg won at No. 3, 6-2, 6-7, 6-2 over Tom Zarzeczny; Aleksey Bubis swept Javier Carillo at No. 4, 6-3, 6-1; Eddie Pacheco beat Ola Bentzen at No. 5, 6-2, 6-2; and Kristofer Ivarsson downed Alon Goldshuv at No. 6, 7-5, 6-1.

“I’m really pleased with our first win of the year,” head coach Robert Cox said. “We were nervous and tight, just like for any season opener. We have a good, deep team. I love our team spirit. I hope we can carry it on tomorrow and in Tuesday’s (Tulane, 6 p.m.) match.”

In doubles, Price and Pacheco beat Zarzeczny at No. 2, 8-4, and Ivarsson and Kullenberg beat Carillo and Bentzen at No. 3, 8-3. Leber and Corrie won at No. 1 over Kolev and Bubis, 8-5.
