No. 4 W. Golf Opens Season In South Carolina

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The 2015-16 season gets underway for the fourth-ranked University of Arkansas women’s golf team this week as the Razorbacks open play at the Powerade Cougar Classic in Charleston, S.C.

Arkansas is making the program’s second appearance at the event and is coming off a victory in the 2014 tournament.  Arkansas shot an 18-under 846 to win by seven strokes with Regina Plasencia and Summar Roachell both inside the top 10.

The Razorbacks return both Plasencia and Roachell this year along with Gabriela Lopez, Samantha Marks and Alana Uriell, all of whom helped the team to a ninth-place finish at the NCAA Championships last season.

From Coach Shauna Estes-Taylor

Our team’s goal this fall is to get better every day while giving ourselves an opportunity to win each week that we compete.  Our biggest strength is our leadership and depth.  Not losing anyone from last year’s team and gaining a seasoned international player like Cara Gorlei, we have much needed depth to help us stay competitive on a daily basis as well as the ability to compete with several different line-ups.  The leadership that Gabriela Lopez and Regina Plasencia provided is really like having two additional coaches.  They do such a tremendous job of setting the bar high while motivating and helping our underclassmen develop in all areas.  This is a special group and I’m excited to see the season unfold.
