No. 6 Razorbacks Open Weekend At Stanford Invitational

PALO ALTO, Calif. – The No. 7 University of Arkansas men’s track and field team opened competition at the Stanford Invitational with day one highlights featuring a victory in the high jump by Alex Campbell and a top-10 finish for Marqueze Washington at 400 meters. In the final event of the night, Kemoy Campbell ran to a top-20 performance in his track debut at 10,000 meters.

Competing in the collegiate section of the high jump, Campbell picked up the Razorbacks’ lone victory of the day with a final clearance of 2.06m/6-9. Teammate Ken LeGassey improved upon his season opener with a clearance of 2.11m/6-11 to finish in third place in the invitational section. Arkansas collected another top-three field result from Devin Randall who was third in the discus with a best of 55.06m/180-8, just 10 inches shy of his personal best.

In a field of more than 40 competitors, Washington posted the seventh-fastest time at 400 meters. He crossed the finish line in a time of 47.58 in his debut in the event this season. He opened the outdoor campaign last weekend with a 21.39 at 200 meters. Running in the top section of the 1,500 meters, Stanley Kebenei ran a personal-best time of 3:46.13 to knock more than a second off his previous best.

Campbell finished his first collegiate 10K in a time of 28:45.84 which was resulted in a 16th-place finish in the event. Prior to Friday night’s race, Campbell had run up to 5,000 meters during the outdoor season. His previous appearance at the Stanford Invitational produced a 5K best of 13:32.82 when he won the event in 2013. In the last race of the evening, Frankline Tonui was 14th in section two with a time of 29:14.79.

Arkansas resumes competition Saturday afternoon in Palo Alto. The Razorbacks are part of a loaded field that includes competition from No. 1 Texas A&M, No. 3 Oregon, No. 5 Texas, No. 12 Oklahoma State, host and No. 14 Stanford, No. 21 Washington and No. 24 Michigan.
