IRVINE, Calif. – Redshirt junior Dominique Scott won the women’s individual title as the Arkansas women’s cross country team took 10 of the top 11 spots, en route to a convincing victory at the adidas/UCI Invitational on Saturday morning at the Anteater Recreation Center Fields.
The Razorbacks, ranked No. 7 in the nation, had the top nine finishers and won the invitational with a perfect score of 15 points. The Master’s College (Calif.) finished second with 98 points and host-school UC-Irvine also scored 98 points, but finished third in a new tiebreaker system in the 17-team meet.
“Today ended up being more of a controlled tempo run from our girls,” said head coach Lance Harter. “Our girls ran smoothly, but got a little excited over the last 800-meters, but it was more of a workout than a racing effort from them today, which for this early in the year is fine. Our depth continued to develop today and we had a strong race from Regan Ward, Kelsey Schrader and Valerie Reina, which makes me feel more comfortable about our depth.”
Scott, who earned NCAA All-American honors a year ago, took the individual championship with a time of 17:12.5 over the 5,000-meter course. The individual title was the third of her career, as she previously won the Aztec Invitational (Sept. 21, 2013) and the SEC Championships (Nov. 1, 2013).
Scott was followed by redshirt senior Grace Heymsfield’s second place finish (17:18.2) and redshirt junior Diane Robison’s third place time of 17:23.9.
Redshirt sophomore Valerie placed fourth in 17:33.9, senior Shannon Klenke was fifth (17:34.0), Regan Ward sixth (17:46.1), freshman Kelsey Schrader seventh (17:51.5), junior Aubree Worden was eighth (18:13.1) and redshirt sophomore Samantha Mohler took ninth (18:21.1) to round out the top 10.
Redshirt freshman Chandler Crumblish’s time of 18:57.5 was good enough for 11th place, while 38th place belonged to Annika Sisson(19:57.1).
