TULSA, Okla. – Regan Ward won the women’s individual title in Arkansas’ season-opening victory at the Hurricane Festival, in Tulsa, Okla., on Saturday.
The 7th-ranked Razorbacks went 4-0 in their duels, defeating Tulsa, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Wichita State. Ward’s run of 11:13 in her Arkansas debut led the way in the women’s two-mile race, while Valerie Reina, Chandler Crumblish and Samantha Mohler each recorded top-ten finishes.
“Good, solid effort for a first race,” said head coach Lance Harter. “We had to shake off some rust, but our training really helped up prepare. We were able to see who could handle the pressure of a race, and see who was able to rise to the occasion with dead legs, and we are very pleased as a coaching staff to see all five girls run well. It’s exciting for us that we did so well, even though we held out some of our top runners. Now the girls who ran today will join the others next week in a much tougher race out in California.”
Reina (11:14) and Crumblish (11:23) finished third and ninth, respectively Samantha Mohler (11th), and Kelsey Schrader (14th) rounded out the top 20, while Aubree Warden finished 22nd and Annika Sisson finished 35th.
