No. 11 Gym'Backs move up in the poll

Jump to poll FAYETTEVILLE — The University of Arkansas gymnastics team has been steadily climbing in the GymInfo poll jumping another spot to a season-best number 11 Monday. The Gym’Backs finished the 2006 season ranked 12th in the country by virtue of their finish in that position at the program’s first NCAA appearance. Arkansas has been as high as ninth in the polls, that coming in 2004. The Gym’Backs’ jump in the polls was due to a record-setting performance at No. 14 Auburn Friday. Arkansas scored its top road score in school history with a 196.325 in the Southeastern Conference win. In addition to Arkansas moving up in the team total, the Gym’Backs are also highly ranked on each individual event. Arkansas ranks 14th on vault, 13th on bars, 15th on beam and is tied for 10th this week on the floor exercise. A pair of freshmen find themselves ranked as individuals again this week. Casey Jo Magee is tied for 19th on the beam and Michelle Stout is holding on to a tie for 24th on vault. The GymInfo poll is a computer generated poll based on a team’s scores and RQS or regional qualifying score. Teams’ scores are reduced to an RQS for placement in the regional meet. An RQS is a compilation of a team’s six best regular-season meet scores, three of which must be road scores. The high score is eliminated and the remaining five scores are averaged. Arkansas returns to the friendly confines of Barnhill Arena for the first of two quad meets hosting No. 23 West Virginia, No. 37 Pittsburgh and No. 39 New Hampshire Friday, March 9, at 7:00 p.m. For more information and tickets please call the Lady Razorback Ticket Office at 57-LBACK or log on to LADYBACKS.COM.
