FAYETTEVILLE — The 19th-ranked University of Arkansas gymnastics team returns to the gym Friday hosting Southeastern Conference rival and 18th-ranked Kentucky in a meet that will be televised by FSN. Arkansas begins a three-meet home stand with the Wildcats facing a Kentucky team that’s better than they’ve been in recent years. "This meet with Kentucky should be a good one," said co-head coach Rene Cook. "Kentucky is very much improved and they have a great freshmen class. We’ve kinda had their number recently and they’ll be motivated against us." The Gym’Backs are coming off a solid meet at No. 3 Alabama last week in which the team posted their second highest score of the year and hit on 23 of 24 performances. Sophomore Emily Peacock was one of the standouts for Arkansas at Alabama leading the team on bars, beam and floor in the meet. "Our lineup will be similar to that (at Alabama)," said Cook, "with maybe one or two changes. Katie (Hardman) is just about ready to get into the floor lineup and we were pretty consistent last week. We don’t want to mess with that." Arkansas’ three-meet home stand is the longest of the season. The Gym’Backs host Kentucky Friday followed by No. 13 Auburn Friday, March 3, and non-conference Washington March 12. "We’ve still got so many big meets coming up," said Cook. "It’s nice to have some of those at home." Arkansas has continued to climb in the polls this year checking in at No. 19 this week. The Gym’Backs are hoping to move into the top 18 becoming one of the "seeded" teams for the upcoming NCAA regional championships April 8 – a meet the Gym’Backs have been selected host in Barnhill Arena. "Each regional will have three seeded and three non-seeded teams," said Cook. "The more teams in your region who are seeded, the more teams from your region get in. Our region is really strong this year." In addition to the three home meets, the Gym’Backs travel to Nebraska for head-to-head action with a regional opponent. The Kentucky meet is also tabbed as the SEC Meet of the Week and will air via tape delay Saturday, March 4, at 5:00 p.m., on FSN. Tickets for this week’s meet are still available.
