No. 19 @RazorbackMGolf Faces Competitive Field in Florida

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — With just two more tournaments remaining before the SEC Championships, the No. 19 Arkansas men’s golf team will be part of a great 15-team field at the Valspar Invitational starting on Monday held at The Floridian Golf Club in Palm City, Fla. The Razorbacks are one of 13 teams in the field currently ranked in the top 50 by Golfstat, including one of seven in the top 20. Arkansas along with No. 8 Houston will host the two-day event that will open with 36 holes on Monday followed the final round on Tuesday. Live scoring of the event is available at www.GolfStat.com or www.ArkansasRazorbacks.com in the men’s golf schedule. Monday’s first round is a shotgun start at 8 a.m. The state of Florida has been good to the Razorbacks this spring, as Arkansas opened the season with a win at the Gator Invitational. The same lineup that captured the Gator Invitational by six strokes will return for the fourth straight event, as senior Sebastian Cappelen, sophomore Taylor Moore, redshirt sophomore Kolton Crawford, sophomore Nicolas Echavarria and redshirt senior William Meason makeup spots 1-5 in the lineup. The group has broken 290 in seven of nine rounds together this spring and turned in three of the four lowest scores this year. Currently No. 4 for Team Europe in the most recent Palmer Cup rankings released on Wednesday, Cappelen leads the team and ranks eighth in the SEC with a 71.4 stroke average. One of three players to take part in all eight tournaments this year, Cappelen has carded a team-best 12 under-par rounds and is tied with Moore for the team lead with four top 10 finishes. The Denmark product, who is on the Ben Hogan Award Watch List, has turned in a counting score in all 24 rounds this season. Either Cappelen or Moore has been the team’s low-man in all three spring events. Moore’s 71.5 stroke average through nine rounds in the spring is just behind Cappelen (71.2), while the Oklahoma native has been even-par or lower five times with no rounds over 75. Moore has built off a strong winter in which he tied with Cappelen for third at the Patriot All-America and won the inaugural Saguaro Amateur by turning in a counting score in all nine rounds and been the low-man four times. Crawford is coming off his first top 20 of the year at the Querencia Cabo Collegiate and will make his ninth straight start. A former SEC All-Freshmen team choice in 2012, who redshirted last year, Crawford has produced a solid 74.3 stroke average with a counting score in 21 of 24 rounds. Echavarria has also upped his play in the spring, producing a 73.7 stroke average with a pair of under-par rounds and top 20 finish at the Bayou City Collegiate. Meason closed his last event with an even-par 71, good for his third even-par or lower round of the spring. Through his first nine rounds played of the year which have all come in the spring, Meason owns a 73.7 stroke average with a season-best finish of 14th at the Gator Invitational.
