No. 1 Arkansas Takes On New York City

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – For the first road trip of the season, No. 1 Arkansas will invade New York for the New Balance Collegiate Invitational at the Armory Track, Feb. 2-3.

UA will be competing alongside BYU, Florida State, Iona, Kentucky, LSU, Maryland, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Texas A&M, to name a few.

Arkansas track and field is ranked No. 1 by the USTFCCCA (United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association) and No. 2 by Trackwire 25, it was announced on Tuesday, as the Razorbacks prepare for the New Balance Collegiate Invite this weekend. Seven Razorbacks were also tabbed in the Trackwire Dandy Dozen.

The USTFCCCA has the Razorbacks at No. 1, Florida State at No. 2 and Auburn at No. 3. Also representing the SEC are Florida at No. 7, Tennessee is 15th and LSU sits at 17th.

Arkansas is sitting at No. 2 on the Trackwire 25 with 42 points. Auburn vaulted into first place with 44 points and defending NCAA Outdoor Champion Florida State rounds out the top three with 40 points. Among the SEC schools, Florida ranks at No. 9, Tennessee is ranked No. 15 while LSU and South Carolina sit at 16th.

Also released on Tuesday are the Dandy Dozen rankings. Seven Razorbacks are ranked in seven events and the distance medley relay (Adam Perkins, Clemore Henry, Brian Roe, Peter Kosgei) also takes the No. 3 spot behind No. 1 Stanford and No. 2 Oregon, despite having the second-fastest time in the nation.

J-Mee Samuels, who clocked a personal-best and provisional-qualifying time of 6.69 at the Arkansas Invitational and then clocked a 6.73 at the Razorback Invitational, is ranked No. 7 in the 60-meter dash. Eight-time All-American Peter Kosgei is ranked No. 1 and No. 3 in the 3,000 meters and 5,000 meters, respectively. All-American Perkins is also seated at No. 5 in the mile.

In the field events, Greg Martin, with his provisional mark in place, sits at No. 12 in the high jump rankings. Alain Bailey, who also registered a provisional-qualifying mark at the Arkansas Invitational, is ranked No. 5 in the long jump while teammate Mychael Stewart jumped up to the No. 7 spot. All-American triple jumper Nkosinza Balumbu is at the top of the event list.
