No. 1 Hogs head to Seattle

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – No. 1 Arkansas Razorback men’s track and field will continue the 2009 indoor season with the first road trip of the season. The Razorbacks will head to the Pacific Northwest for the UW Invitational, Jan. 30-31, in Seattle, Wash.

Expected to compete individually are Shawn Forrest, James Strang, Dorian Ulrey in addition to the 4×400-meter relay and the distance medley relay.

Teams competing include No. 8 BYU, California, Cal State Northridge, Colorado, Hawaii, Long Beach State, New Mexico State, Oral Roberts, No. 4 Oregon, Portland, Portland State, San Francisco, No. 25 Stanford, UC-Davis, UC-Santa Barbara, UCLA, USC and the hosting Washington Huskies.

In the latest U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association poll, released Jan. 28, Arkansas holds the top spot in the nation. Rounding out the top three are No. 2 Arizona State and No. 3 Florida. The Razorbacks are the highest seated of the five SEC schools in the poll.

Arkansas student-athletes currently hold the top marks in the SEC in the mile (Ulrey), the DMR (Ulrey, Jake Stephens, Chris Bilbrew, Duncan Phillips), the long jump (Tarik Batchelor), the triple jump (Nkosinza Balumbu) and the heptathlon (Nate Durham). Additionally, Razorbacks hold top three marks in two more events (800 meters, triple jump).

In addition to high SEC rankings, Arkansas also sports many athletes ranked among the nation’s top 20. Five Razorbacks plus the members of the DMR hold top 20 spots in three events (mile, long jump, triple jump).
