Beeks registered the Razorbacks’ first complete game since Ryne Stanek vs. Charlotte in the NCAA Tempe Regional on June 5, 2011. Before the complete game, Beeks’ previous career-long outing was 6.0 innings twice earlier this season. Against the Dons, he also tied his career high with six strikeouts and allowed just four hits, all in the fourth inning. He faced the minimum in the other eight innings and was perfect in seven of the nine innings he pitched, needing only 110 pitches to complete the game. In 26.2 innings this season, Beeks has allowed just two earned runs for an ERA of 0.68.
Freshman of the Week Nominee:
Zach Jackson — RHP — 6-3 — 195 — Berryhill, Okla.
Notes: Zach Jackson continued an impressive start to his true freshman campaign by earning his first collegiate victory in Saturday’s 4-0 win vs. Tulane at the Cal Baseball Classic in Berkeley, Calif. Jackson came on in relief and threw a career-high 3.2 shutout innings while allowing just three hits and striking out two. His performance helped Arkansas record its first shutout of 2014 and snap Tulane’s streak of at least one run scored in 36 straight games. He also helped continue the Razorbacks’ streak of innings pitched by relievers without allowing an earned run that is now at 30.2 consecutive innings. This season, Jackson has pitched 12.1 innings over four appearances without allowing an earned run.
