No. 2 OU tops No. 6 Arkansas

FAYETTEVILLE – Casey Jo Magee won the battle of the top two beam performers in the nation and set a school record in the all-around as No. 6 Arkansas hosted No. 2 Oklahoma in gymnastics for Senior Night on Friday, but the Sooners posted a 197.475-196.100 victory.

"Oklahoma has a great team and they have expectations of doing well," Arkansas co-head coach René Cook said. "We got a little tight on bars and beam. We had some errors we are not pleased with, but that gives us something to focus on in the gym next week."

Magee entered the meet ranked No. 2 in the nation on beam while OU’s Hollie Vise was ranked No. 1.

Magee tied her own school record with a 9.95 while Vise posted a 9.875. She also won the all-around title with a 39.675, breaking her own mark of 39.65 set earlier this year.

Magee, Amy DeFilippo and Sarah Nagashima competed in Barnhill Arena for the final time. DeFilippo had a 9.825 on beam and a 9.775 on bars. Nagashima had a 9.80 on vault, 9.85 on bars, 9.25 on beam and 9.85 on floor.

Magee tied for individual event titles on beam, vault and floor, and won the all-around.

"Seeing this class mature from recruiting through their final home meet is very fulfilling," Cook said. "I feel very fortunate to have had an influence on their lives."

In the first rotation, Arkansas had a 49.30 on vault while Oklahoma had a 49.375 on bars. Arkansas’ total matches its season high and ties for the seventh-best in school history.

For the Razorbacks, Magee tied the second-best mark in school history with a 9.95, Jaime Pisani posted a 9.90 and Kelci Lewis had a season-high matching 9.85, while Mariah Howdeshell and Nagashima each had a 9.80.

For the Sooners, Hollie Vise had a 9.90 on bars.In the second rotation, Arkansas scored a 49.10 on bars while OU had a 49.40 on vault.

Nagashima had a career-high matching 9.85 and Howdeshell a season-high matching 9.825. Magee also had a 9.85, Pisani a 9.80 and DeFilippo 9.775.

For Oklahoma, Sara Stone had a 9.95 on vault.

Through two events, Oklahoma led 98.775-98.400.

In the third rotation, Arkansas counted on fall and scored a 48.525 on beam while OU had a 49.25 on floor.

Magee tied her own school record with a 9.95. DeFilippo had a 9.825, Stacy Bartlett a 9.775, Pisani a 9.65 and Howdeshell a 9.325.

Oklahoma’s Jackie Flanery had a 9.925 on floor.

In the last rotation, the Razorbacks had a 49.175 with only five competitors on floor while Oklahoma had a 49.45 on beam.

Magee and Pisani each had a 9.925, Nagashima a 9.85, Lewis a 9.825 and Bartlett a 9.65.

OU’s Kristin Smith had a 9.95.

Arkansas is in Jacksonville, Fla., next week for the SEC Championship.
