No. 3 Arkansas Takes on NYC and the New Balance Invite

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. The No. 3 Razorbacks will send a full squad to the New Balance Collegiate Invite at the Armory Track Center in New York City. Competition will begin Friday, Feb. 8 at 12 p.m. and continue at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9.

BYU, Cal State Northridge, Duke, Florida State, Georgetown, Illinois, Iona, Kansas, LSU, Oklahoma, Princeton, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Texas A&M are just a few of the 50+ schools scheduled to compete at The Armory this weekend.

The current United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) ranking was released Feb. 6, 2008. The Hogs fell slightly to No. 3 after taking a weekend off from competition. Arkansas, one of six SEC teams ranked in the top 25 and one of four ranked in the top 10, will travel a full squad to the New Balance Collegiate Invite this weekend. Among the SEC, Tennessee leads the nation, Florida ranks second, Kentucky is No. 10, LSU ranks 12th and Auburn sits at No. 14.

Alex McClary holds the nation’s second-best time in the 800 meters with his provisional clocking of 1:49.28. Scott MacPherson holds the nation’s eighth-best time in the 3,000 meters (8:03.12). UA’s distance medley relay (LaCava, Bilbrew, Al. McClary, An. McClary) sits at No. 2 in the nation with a time of 9:38.37.

Alain Bailey’s high jump of 7-0.25 sits at No. 14 on the national list and his long jump of 25-7.25 ranks No. 6. Three-time All-American and SEC Champion Nkosinza Balumbu’s triple jump of 52-1 is No. 5 on the national list. Daniel Quinn ranks 12th in the long jump (25-0). Spencer McCorkel ranks No. 11 in the pole vault (17-2.75).

Five Razorbacks and the UA distance medley relay hold the top marks in the SEC. Alex McClary in the 800M, Scott MacPherson in the 3,000M, Alain Bailey in the long jump, Nkosinza Balumbu in the TJ, Spencer McCorkel in the pole vault and the DMR (LaCava, Chris Bilbrew, Al. McClary and Andy McClary) hold top marks in the SEC.
