DES MOINES, Iowa. — The University of Arkansas women’s track and field team recorded a runner-up finish in the 4×400-meter relay with an impressive time of 3:32.18 to wrap up a successful week at the 2014 Drake Relays. The 4×400 quartet of Brianna Swinton, Daina Harper, Regine Williams and Chrishuna Williams crossed the finish line in 3:32.18, a strong second-place finish that ranks fourth in the Southeastern Conference and sixth in the nation. “Our relay team, a group comprised of three freshman and a junior, is really special,” said Head Coach Lance Harter. “They came in and ran a season-best against a national-class field. To be so young and run with that type of maturity is extremely impressive.” The sprint medley relay team also earned a runner-up finish on Saturday, with a second-place time of 3:48.25. R. Williams led off for the Razorbacks, followed by Harper and C. Williams in their first of two races on the day. Stephanie Brown anchored the Razorbacks for the 800 leg, bringing it home for the runner-up finish. “This week was a positive statement of where our team stands and what we are capable of,” said Harter. “Some didn’t even compete this week preparing for the weeks to come. We’re going to come out healthy and rested for championships season.” After a weekend of personal-bests and some of the nation’s top times, Arkansas will return to John McDonnell Field next weekend as the Razorbacks host the Arkansas Twilight Friday night. The distance crew will travel to California for the Payton Jordan Invitational.
