–Wake Forest golfer Nannette Hill tied the University of New Mexico course record with a five-under 67 in the first round.

–Second-ranked Southern California shot a four-under to lead after the first round.

–Three-time defending champion Duke is 18th after the first round in which they carded an 11-over 299 Tuesday.

–During the first round only 14 of the 126 golfers shot under par. Texas A&M sophomore Ashley Freeman who is tied for ninth made back-to-back eagles on the par five fifth and the par 4 sixth.

–New Mexico senior Alexandra Phelps, playing as an individual, shot a career-best 3-under par 69.
