FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — University of Arkansas juniors Mike Nott and Manfred Jeske have been ranked No. 9 in the ITA preseason doubles poll released Friday, Sept. 6.
The duo played at the No. 1 spot for most of the season, qualifying for the NCAA Tournament in the spring. The pair advanced to the Sweet Sixteen round before falling to the No. 3 seed. Nott and Jeske were the first doubles pair from Arkansas to qualify for the tournament since 2009.
Additionally, Nott and Jeske have been selected as qualifying singles for the 2013 ITA Men’s All-American Championship. Both men had successful singles seasons in 2012-2013. Jeske played at the No. 1 or 2 spot in all but one SEC match and also recorded a 5-2 fall record in singles play.
Nott also had a strong singles season for his junior campaign, collecting the most wins on the team this season and recording an 11-6 dual match record. Nott came on strong at the end of the season where he captured three SEC victories, including an intense match at the SEC tournament where he took down Alabama’s Daniil Proskura in two sets at the No. 2 spot for the Razorbacks.
“By being preseason Top 10 in doubles, Mike and Manny (Manfred) have earned a valuable opportunity as it puts them in the main draw of the ITA All-American in doubles and in the qualifying of single,” Coach Andy Jackson said. “From what I have seen, they can compete with anyone in the NCAA on the doubles court and both are not far from being able to do it in singles. Like our team, they need some confidence and the fall competition is where it begins.”
The 2013 ITA All-American Championship will be held on Oct. 3-6 in Tulsa, Okla., with the ITA Regional Championship two weeks after on Oct. 17-21.
