Nott selected for NCAA Individual Championship

FAYETTEVILLE– The NCAA committee announced that Arkansas’ own junior Christopher Nott was selected as one of the alternates for the singles competition in the NCAA Division I Men’s Tennis Singles Championships. Nott nearly placed among the top 64 but was selected to the alternate list with the possibility to compete on May 26-31.
Nott, ranked No. 67 in the nation in singles has played at the No. 1 position in every dual match this season, compiling a team high of 17 singles wins and 22 doubles victories this season.
Nott opened the season ranked No. 84 in the nation but quickly climbed the rankings. In singles he reached a career high ranking of No. 49 in singles and No. 26 in doubles with partner Dmitry Lebedev.
His brilliance and momentum continued throughout the entire season, earning ranked wins over then-ranked No. 81 Tuck Voster of Ole Miss, No. 52 Deigo Cubas of South Carolina, No. 83 Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan of Washington and No. 35 Jeff Dadamo of Texas A&M.
Highlight the season, was Nott’s heated battle with No. 16 Tim Puetz of Auburn. Nott and Puetz rallied but eventually Nott overpowered to take a stunning straight set victory, 6-4 7-5.
At the ITA Central Regional Championship in Tulsa, Okla., Nott overpowered his opponents picking up won four consecutive matches to advance to the semifinals. En route to the semi-finals, Nott defeated Calin Paar of Nebraska in three sets before defeating another Husky, David Bendheim. In doubles Nott and Lebedev,then ranked No.38 in the nation in doubles defeated Ken Nordheim and James McArthur of St. Louis to advance to the semifinals.
Nott and head coach Robert Cox will travel for the singles competition of the NCAA Championships to be held May 26-31 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga., following the conclusion of the team championship (May 20-25).
