Nowell Highlights Field Events at Arkansas Twilight

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The University of Arkansas women’s track and field team had a strong showing at the final regular-season meet of the year at the Arkansas Twilight Friday night at John McDonnell Field. The No. 9 Razorbacks took full advantage of a final attempt to qualify for the NCAA Championship season. A stellar performance by Danielle Nowell highlighted the field events at the Arkansas Twilight, as she cleared 14-0.5 to become just the second Southeastern Conference pole vaulter to clear 14-feet, behind fellow Razorback Sandi Morris. It marks the first 14-foot clearance for Nowell during outdoor season, taking down her previous outdoor PR of 13-11.25 recorded at the John McDonnell Invitational earlier this season. Her mark ranks No. 9 in NCAA this season. In just her second 800-meter performance of her career, Chrishuna Williams finished runner-up in 2:06.48, the fourth-best time for the Razorbacks this season. Fellow sprinter Regine Williams won two events on the day, starting with a victory time of 11.60 in the 100-meter dash and followed by a 23.66 first-place performance in the 200-meter dash. The freshman has won seven events in her first collegiate outdoor season. Sophomore distance runner Samantha Mohler won her first event as a Razorbacks with a time of 9:46.92, followed by Kaitlin Flattmann in third with a time of 9:57.47. In other field events, the Razorbacks earned the top-four finishes in high jump, led by Kirsten Hesseltine with a victory jump of 5-8.75. Alex Gochenour and Leigha Brown finished 2-3, respectively, with an identical mark of 5-7. Amethyst Boyd recorded a personal-best performance on her throw of 156-5 in javelin to finish third on the day. Alex Gochenour and Leigha Brown also represented the Razorbacks in javelin, both posting a season-best mark. The majority of the distance crew will compete at the Payton Jordan Invitational in Stanford, Calif. on Sunday. Arkansas will then take a week off as they gear up for the SEC Championships May 15-18.
