Nunn better

Rogers, Ark. – University of Arkansas women’s golfer Lucy Nunn carded a two-under 70 earning a spot in the P&G Beauty NW Arkansas Championship at Pinnacle Country Club Monday. Nunn, a senior-to-be for the women’s golf team, was the low qualifier of the day earning one of two spots for the weekend event. “I’m so pumped up,” said Nunn after the round. “I told everyone last year that I wanted to be on the other side of the bag. I knew after the Southern I had a shot to play well and I couldn’t be more pleased.” Nunn attended the inaugural event last year at Pinnacle helping teammate Stacy Lewis as her caddy. That experience coupled with Nunn’s recent amateur victory at the Southern Women’s Amateur Championship has helped her confidence. “This is a tremendous opportunity for Lucy,” said Arkansas head coach Shauna Estes-Taylor. “She has worked so hard to put her game in a position to compete in a tour event and I’m very proud of her. It’s exciting to have her and Stacy represent us at this event.” Lewis, who is coming off a tie for third place at last week’s U.S. Women’s Open, has a sponsor’s exemption to this year’s championship. Nunn finished the round with a two-under 70 on the par 72 course. She went right off the tee on 18 and got on the green in four. Nunn hit a 10-foot par putt that holed in to save par on the final hole to make the cut. Arkansas golf teammate junior-to-be Kristin Ingram also competed Monday. Ingram, a Passadena, Calif., native carded an 81 and did not make the cut. Tuesday and Wednesday’s event schedule includes the professional practices followed by a pro-am on Thursday. First round action begins Friday morning. Daily tickets are available for $15 Tuesday-Thursday. Daily Championship tickets are good for any one day Friday-Sunday for $25, and weekly tickets for Tuesday-Sunday are $50. For more information about Arkansas women’s golf, log on to LADYBACKS.COM.
