Nunn leads Arkansas to Texas

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – University of Arkansas senior Lucy Nunn will lead the 22nd-ranked Razorback women’s golf team into action this weekend at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Classic in Austin, Texas, Friday-Sunday. Nunn is coming off her first collegiate victory at the LSU/Cleveland Classic last weekend and helped Arkansas to a fourth-place finish in the first spring event. “We came back and responded well,” said Arkansas head coach Shauna Estes-Taylor of last week’s event. “We had a lot of birdies coming in on the last two days of play and it was a great finish. We’re looking to carry some of that momentum to Texas this weekend. Arkansas has been pretty steady in the traveling five and does not change this week. The Razorbacks travel lone senior Nunn, juniors Kristin Ingram and Alex Schulte, sophomore Kelli Shean and freshman Katy Nugent. Tiffany Phelps will make the trip to Texas as an individual competitor this week as well. The Razorbacks have competed at the University of Texas Golf Course the past couple of years and this year’s squad should be familiar with the course and its surroundings. “We’ve been reviewing old yardage books and reacquainting ourselves with the course,” said Estes-Taylor. “If the winds blow, it can be a tough course but I think we play it well. We’re just exciting to get back out there and compete again. This year’s 17-team field includes No. 1 Arizona, No. 9 Duke, No. 13 Vanderbilt, No. 14 Purdue, No. 20 Arizona, No. 26 Notre Dame, No. 34 New Mexico, No. 35 Texas A&M, No. 42 UCF, No. 44 Furman, No. 46 South Carolina, No. 51 Chattanooga, No. 55 Texas, No. 56 Tulsa, No. 57 Florida State and No.66 Oklahoma. There is no rest for the weary and Arkansas is about to find that out. They open spring break with the Texas trip and follow up with the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic March 27-29.
