STILLWATER, Okla. – Arkansas’ four-game winning streak came to a crashing halt as Oklahoma State dominated the Razorbacks on both ends of the floor to post a 71-45 victory Monday at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
OSU (9-1) held Arkansas to a season-low .327 shooting percentage while the Cowboys shot 56.3 percent, the highest percentage allowed by the Razorbacks this season. Arkansas was also out-rebounded for just the second time this year, even if it was by a margin of just one, 34-33.
Arkansas, which also had 22 turnovers, led 2-0 and 4-3 before Oklahoma State scored eight straight for an 11-4 lead. Arkansas (5-5) was within 16-13 after a Dionisio Gomez jumper with 8:18 left in the first half, but another 8-0 run put the Cowboys in control and OSU led 34-16 at the half.
OSU shot 51.9 percent in the first half and only got hotter in the second period, hitting 13 of 21 shots for 61.9 percent. UA shot 32 percent in the first half and 33 in the second.
In the second half, Jonathon Modica scored on a putback and Eric Ferguson made a layup to cut an 18-point deficit to 37-24, but the Cowboys went on another 8-0 run to take a 45-24 lead with 12:21 remaining. Arkansas never got closer than 18 the rest of the way.
The one area where Arkansas out-performed OSU was at the free throw line. The Razorbacks were 10 of 18 for 55.6 percent while the Cowboys were just 13 of 30 for 43.3 percent.
Alonzo Lane was the only Hog in double figures with 10 points. Gomez and Modica had nine each. Gomez also had seven rebounds while Lane added five boards.
Victor Williams led Oklahoma State with 22 points on eight of 13 shooting, including four of six three-pointers. Tony Allen scored 14 on six of nine shooting and Ivan McFarlin had 11 on four of five shooting.
Arkansas plays host to Memphis on Thursday at 7 p.m.
