OLYMPIC SPOTLIGHT: Yi-Ting Siow Event: 200 Breast, 200 IM, 400 IM Date: Saturday, Nov. 6-Wednesday, Nov. 10 Yi Ting Siow joined the University of Arkansas in January 2008 after transferring from Wisconsin. The 2007 Big Ten Swimmer of the Year, Siow is appearing in her third Olympics representing Malaysia. She also took part in the 2000 and 2004 Olympic Games. Siow is the first Malaysian women’s swimmer to compete in three consecutive Olympics. Siow was 15 when she made her Olympic debut in Sydney and set a national record finishing 27th in the 200m breaststroke. Four years later in Athens, Siow was eliminated in the heats. Now, at 23, Siow has qualified in three events – the 200 and 400 IM and the 200 breaststroke. Siow attended The Bolles School in Florida where she worked with current Razorback head coach Jeff Poppell. She attended college at the University of Wisconsin for two seasons and holds the school record for 200 breaststroke with a 2:09.95 and 200 IM at 1:57.60. She was the 2007 NCAA runner-up in the 200 breast. Siow is expected to compete at Arkansas this year.
