Once again Miseviciute in finals at ITA Indoors

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Another impressive win by University of Arkansas senior Aurelija Miseviciute surged the Razorback into the finals of the ITA National Indoor Singles Championships on Sunday.

Miseviciute, the No. 1 overall-seed, easily dropped No. 47 Nina Munch-Soegaard, 6-4, 6-1, on Saturday.

The victory resets a match from a year ago against Miseviciute and Clemson’s Ana Mijacika, the top two ranked women’s tennis players in the nation. At this event last season it was Miseviciute taking the crown, 6-3, 5-7, 7-6(3). Sunday’s championship match is set for 10 a.m.

Ray really hit her stride today and I think its exciting to face such a great competitor as (Ana) Mijacika in the final,” said Arkansas head coach Michael Hegarty.

Today’s win also marks Miseviciute’s 103rd career singles win, tying her with Louise Ostling for 4th place all-time as she makes her mark for the top mark, 107 wins.

In doubles, Nanar Airapetian and Anouk Tigu’s recent seven-match win streak came to an end on Saturday. The Hog duo fell to No. 8 Renata Kucerova and Anastasia Petukhova of Fresno State, 7-5, 6-3.

“Anouk (Tigu) and Nanar (Airapetian) lit up the regional and again here at nationals to establish themselves as one of the top teams in the nation," Hegarty said.

“I’m real proud of the efforts of the whole team gave this weekend at both tournaments. Here in Charlottesville we have played some of the best singles and doubles of any fall I can remember.”
