Ordonez to serve as honorary captain

FAYETTEVILLE — Former Arkansas All-American Ish Ordonez will serve as the A Club honorary captain for the Arkansas-Tulsa football game on Nov. 3, it was announced on Wednesday. Ordonez was a three-year letterwinner for the Razorbacks. Ordonez compiled one of the best careers for a kicker in school history and still ranks in the top 10 of several UA single-season and career record lists. In the 1979 season, Ordonez went 18-of-22 in field goals. At one point in the 1979 season, Ordonez connected on 16 consecutive field goals, which at the time was a NCAA record. His 18 field goals in that season led the country and still rank as the sixth-highest single-season total in school history. For his efforts in the 1979 season, Ordonez was named a second team All-American and also earned All-Southwest Conference accolades. In his final season as a Razorback, Ordonez kicked 13 field goals, earning All-SWC recognition for the second-straight year. Ordonez finished his time at Arkansas making 44-of-62 field goals. Ordonez ranks 10th in points scored with 220, including 44 field goals and 88 PATs. His 71 percent conversion rate on field goals still ranks as the fourth-best in school history. The 44 made field goals is tied for the fifth most in program history. Ordonez helped the Razorbacks to 26 victories over his three seasons. Arkansas’ best season came in 1979, when the team finished the year with a 10-2 record, which included a Southwest Conference title and an appearance in the Sugar Bowl. The A Club honorary captain is recognized before each home game for their outstanding accomplishments on the field during their Razorback career. Each captain will be available for a brief autograph session at the AT&T Fan Zone at The Gardens prior to each game. Before kickoff, they will be recognized and will accompany the captains to midfield for the coin toss. Tickets for the Tulsa game are still on sale for $45.
