Overstreet Vaults Up Leaderboard At NCAA Championship

Round 2 Results

SUGAR GROVE, Ill. – University of Arkansas freshman Mason Overstreet moved 12 spots up the leaderboard on Saturday at the NCAA National Championship, firing a 4-under 68 with seven birdies at Rich Harvest Farms.

Overstreet opened his round on the back nine and quickly jumped into red figures with a birdie on No. 10 and proceeded to make three more birdies on the back side. After a birdie on 18, he made the turn and promptly made three straight birdies race to the top of the leaderboard.

He went on to make a career-high seven birdies and posted back-to-back rounds under par for the first time in his collegiate career. With rounds of 70-68 – 138 (-6), Overstreet enters the third round just two shots off the lead.

Eight of the top 10 collegiate players in the country are in the field and Overstreet is beating seven of them, including top-ranked Sam Burns from LSU. He is tied for sixth in the field with 11 birdies.

Overstreet is the fourth individual in school history to advance to the National Championship, joining R.H. Sikes in 1963, Bud Still in 1995 and Craig Lile in 2000. Sikes captured the program’s only individual NCAA Championship in 1963.

The third round of the NCAA Championship continues on Sunday with Overstreet teeing off at 8:02 a.m. with Will Zalatoris of Wake Forest and Cam Norman of Troy.
