Palmer named SEC Diver of the Week

FAYETTEVILLE – University of Arkansas junior Madison Palmer earned Southeastern Conference Female Diver of the Week honors, the league announced Tuesday.

An Olathe, Kan., native, Palmer led the Lady Razorbacks with two wins over SEC opponent Vanderbilt last Saturday. Palmer set a school record with a win on the one-meter springboard. She had a personal-best score of 318.82.

Palmer swept the diving events, also winning the three meter with another career-best 336.15. Her three-meter score was the third best score in program history.

“It’s exciting to see Madison set a new record and receive this honor,” said diving coach Scott Reich. “She did three new dives on Saturday and she’s now at the point where she can do them well. She really increased her degree of difficulty.”

Palmer’s score on the one meter is first in the SEC and her score on the three meter is second.

Palmer swept the diving events in four different meets this year and is second on the team with eight individuals wins.

This is the third SEC Diver of the Week award Palmer received this season, giving her the most SEC weekly honors of any swimmer and diver at Arkansas. Prior to Palmer, former Lady’Back Mandy Moran was named diver of the week twice in 2004. The SEC awards were added in 2000.

Arkansas swimming and diving takes a break from competition until Feb. 9 when the Lady’Backs travel to Auburn, Ala., to face Auburn and Florida State.
