Palmer places 11th on three meter at Zones

HOUSTON, TEXASUniversity of Arkansas junior diver Madison Palmer placed 11th on the three-meter springboard Saturday at the NCAA Zone D Diving Meet at the University of Houston’s Campus Recreation and Wellness Center Natatorium.

Palmer and junior Hilarie Wilson were the only two Lady Razorback divers that competed today, as junior Kellyn Williams took a break in hopes to perform well on the platform tomorrow.

Madison went after everything today,” said interim diving coach Dale Schultz. “She’s in a good state of mind and she just missed long. Kellyn did not dive today. We are saving her for tower.”

Palmer scored a career best 538.00 for her 11th-place finish. Palmer’s score was the fourth-best in school history.

Wilson finished 21st with a personal best 396.80.

After further review, Palmer’s score of 543.55 on the one meter yesterday did not set the school record, but was second best on the record list next to Mandy Moran who holds the record with a 564.40 on the one-meter diving championship record.

With Palmer’s fourth-place finish on the one meter, she still has a chance to qualify for the 2008 NCAA Championships with Sunday’s event.

All three Lady’Back divers are set to compete in the platform diving event tomorrow at 12:30 p.m., when three more women’s qualifiers will be decided.
