HOUSTON, TEXAS – University of Arkansas junior Madison Palmer qualified for the 2008 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships Sunday at the NCAA Zone D Diving Meet at the University of Houston’s Campus Recreation and Wellness Center Natatorium.
Palmer qualified with her fourth-place score of 543.55 that she earned Friday on the one-meter springboard. The Olathe, Kan., native was the seventh of eight NCAA Championship qualifiers.
“Madison’s excited and is looking forward to going to the championships and competing,” said interim diving coach Dale Schultz. “She had a good weekend.”
Palmer finished the zone diving competition by placing 10th on the platform with a career-best score of 402.05. Junior Hilarie Wilson had the best finish for the Lady Razorbacks with a 9th place, personal best 409.40. Junior Kellyn Williams followed with a 12th-place finish and individual best 397.10.
“They (Wilson and Williams) dove solid they just didn’t have a high enough degree of difficulty,” said Schultz.
Palmer is expected to compete on the one- and three-meter springboards at the NCAA Championships held at Ohio State’s McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion on March 20-22.
Palmer is the fourth Lady’Back to qualify for the championships this season. Junior Stephanie Carr and freshmen Ashley Largo and Katie Kastes will also compete in Columbus, Ohio.
