FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.&- With the Arkansas women’s tennis 2013 fall season approaching, Yang Pang&earned national rankings&from the&Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) as it&announced the ITA Division I Women’s Preseason Rankings last Friday.
Looking to build on her&breakout freshman campaign, Pang will begin her sophomore season ranked No. 43 in the 2013 ITA Women’s Preseason Singles Rankings. The Nanjing, China, native climbed the rankings last season with a number of strong performances, finishing at No. 42 in the nation according to the ITA.
In just her first year with the program, Pang quickly emerged as one of the leading players for the Razorbacks during the team’s 2013 spring campaign. She spent the entire season at No. 1 singles for the Razorbacks, finishing with a record of 11-12, with each of her losses coming only against nationally ranked opponents. Pang was the only Razorback last season to earn a bid to the NCAA individual singles championship.
For her performance, Pang finished the season as just the second Razorback ever to be named Central Region Rookie of the Year by the ITA. Upsetting a total of seven ranked opponents on the season, she also earned 2013 First Team All-SEC honors&and was named to the 2013 All-SEC Rookie Team.
The Arkansas women’s tennis team is set to&begin its fall&season in less than two weeks. Select athletes are scheduled to compete at either the Little Rock Classic or William & Mary Tribe Invitational, with both events taking place during the Sept. 20-22 weekend.
